How to feel better when you have a bad day
Are you looking for something that can motivate you to get out of bed? We’ve all been there. Sometimes it can be hard to figure out how to feel better when you have a bad day. Because of that I’ve collected all of the things that makes me a little more motivated (at least afterwards).

But without further ado – here’s how to feel better and conquer your bad days.

1. Look at a feel good series or movie
This is a classic. And if you’re looking for something new, here’s a list of my 47 favorite series you must watch.
But if you’re not in the mood for something new, your favorite movie or series works just as good. This is why I’ve watched all of Friends at least five times over, it has a special place in my heart.
Often when you feel down you also feel lost or directionless. That’s why this is the best time of all to start planing and dreaming a little. It can be a plan of the week, of the day or even for the rest of your life. You create your life, no dream is to big.

This is quite self explanatory, just read a book. Either a new one or an old favorite. Just let yourself dream away into a far of world for a while.
Again, pour yourself something hot, light some candles, and grab the story.
4. Call a friend
I know I’m really bad at calling my friends and family at a regular basis. But every time I get my ass of the chair and actually call someone I like I always end up being in a much better mood afterwards.
If nothing else, you may light up their day, and that’s super rewarding too.
5. Take a walk
Slide on your most comfy shoes, put on some headphones (if that’s how you roll) and just start walking.
Sometimes just being alone with our thoughts for a little while can help us find the cause of our rut. And some fresh air and blood circulation can’t make it worse.
I prefer to walk where there’s trees because they make me calm and in touch with my surroundings. But I’d say the most important thing is too walk where you feel relaxed and comfortable.
6. Take a long shower/or bath
…and light some candles, bring a book(if in a bath, otherwise it will be the last time you read it), dim the lighting and just breathe camly. Maybe put on a face mask, do a homemade body scrub and just enjoy feeling clean and calm. Everything will be fine.
7. Clean your house/apartment
It’s hard to get a calm and refreshed when you’re surroundings are messy and unorganized. So put on some awesome music, put your hair in a bun and start cleaning.
Nothing feels better than an good smelling clean apartment/house, your future self will thank you.
Just like a you can’t relax in a messy apartement or house you can’t relax in a messy mind. And to clean a mind you can’t just put your hair in a bun and bring out the cleaning supplies (even tho I wish you could).
Sit somewhere calm, either in silence or listening to some relaxing sounds or music and just turn of your thoughts. I know it’s easier said than done. But practice makes perfect.
Try doing this for as little as 5-10 minutes every day and you’ll soon realize that your mind feels clearer and much more calm and focused.
This is something I wish I did more of, because I think it’s like meditation but fun. I love to put on some music or a series to have in the background and then just paint. It doesn’t matter what, I just paint. My preferred paints are watercolor or oil, sometimes I also paint digitally.
But if painting isn’t your thing, you can try scrapbooking, making jewellery (how cool to be able to wear your own jewellery?) or building something.
10. Learn something new
Everyone of us has a secret thing we want to learn that we’ve always made excuses to avoid. Now it’s time to throw those excuses out the window and dive right in. Everyone is a beginner at first, that’s not something that should have the power to hold us back.
Maybe you want to start a blog, or learn graphic design, or cook the worlds best vegan bolognese? Everything is possible, you just have to begin. And the perfect time to begin is now!
11. Write something
You can write something personal, something funny, something that doesn’t make sense or something that do. It doesn’t matter. Just put words to paper. Start a diary, a poem, a book or a blog post.
I’ve always found that word vomiting clears my mind. It’s like talking to your best friend, but you can tell them things you never want anyone to know. Or you can see it as a chance to share you thoughts, that can be freeing too.
I think that the best way to get a new perspective on life is to actually get a new perspective. Move around some furniture, change up your desk. Put some new pillows on the sofa.
Changing up your environment can spark creativity and get you to see stuff in a new light. I know I move around our furniture ones every two-three months. It doesn’t have to be better, it just have to be different. Refreshed surroundings always gets me in a better mood.
13. Play a game you loved when you were younger
Nothing is better than getting lost in nostalgia. It’s amazing how an old tv- or video game can transport you back in time.
When I need a moment to disappear and drown out the world, I play Sims or Age of Empires and get lost for a few (or too many) hours. Sometime we just need to reset.
14. Put on some pretty clothes and do your hair and makeup
As they say, fake it until you make it. And what better way to fake it than to get dressed for success. Because we’re usually not in a bad mood when we’re about to party.
So let’s have a party of our own – let’s get fancy just because we can!
15. Dance around
And while we’re in the topic of parties – dancing. This has been my to got to solution for bad moods the last months. I just crank the music (usually the same disney as I sings to) and I dance dramatically as if I was in the movies singing the songs and dancing the dances.
I probably look completely hilarious (thank god no one sees). But it doesn’t matter. Or actually – the more hilarious the better, because laughing at yourself is the best laughter. I think it sets you free and let’s you see everything in a new unserious light.
16. Get a haircut or a facial
Is there anything that feels as great as when you walk out from the hairdresser with fresh beautiful hair? I don’t think so. Sometimes we need to spoil ourselves and just relax and let someone else take care of us.
17. Bake or cook something
Am I the only one that thinks that food you cook yourself tastes better? It’s like you can taste the hard work and the time you’ve put in.
And the thing is, it doesn’t even have to be something complicated. Here are some recipes that only takes 5-15 minutes, the best kind if you ask me.
18. Invite a friend
Even if you don’t feel like talking to anyone, you won’t regret talking to one of your best friends. If nothing else it chase away feelings of lonliness or get your mind thinking on something else.
You can just sit in the sofa, talk about life, or dreams or watch a funny movie. I’d say it’s like working out. You feel resistens before you do it and thankful afterwards. They are your best friend for a reason.
19. Go to a cozy coffeehouse
Just getting out of your house when you are in a rut can be difficult, but because of that it’s important to do so. So, get dressed, call a friend (or bring a book) and go to the nearest coffeehouse and order in the tastiest thing on their meny – really spoil yourself.
20. Create a new routine
Sometimes when we feel like we are in a rut it’s because we’ve become so used to our everyday life and everything we do.
To get out of a rut, more often than not, we just have to shake things up. And what better way than to create a new routine? It can be a makeup routine, an evening routine, a morning routine, a cleaning routine – it’s all up to you.

Okay, you’ve already found your way here – and that’s super awesome, I’m really happy to have you here. This is one of the blogs where you can find inspiration, but there are thousands out there. Just go to Pinterest and search for the things you want inspiration on!

Bad days = bored days, am I right? So, why not test something new? Learn something you’ve always wanted to learn or start a new course? Maybe you want to knit, or play football, or make your own clothes? Take the time you have right now to start a new hobby!
24. Replant, or buy, a pretty plant
I’ve been a crazy plant lady ever since I got my first apartment. Something is calming and therapeutic with the process of caring for your plants. Watering, cutting off dead leaves and replanting.
Because of that, when I feel anxious or stressed, I like to take a moment with my plant (at one time I had 52 plants, which is way too many, haha).
I know, everyone knows that this is the best thing to do when trying to get out of a bad mood. You’re probably reading this post to find something to do so that you don’t have to workout. But I promise you, you’d feel better after some exercise. No matter how boring it is. You won’t regret it afterwards.
And it doesn’t even have to be this big thing. You can put on some stretchy clothes and workout exactly where you are right now. If you don’t know which exercises to do, here are three youtube channels with 10-30 minute workouts you can do from home without any equipment.
26. Create a vision board
Sometimes when you feel bored or lost in life it’s because you’ve lost your path and vision of the future. Let’s change that.
You can make your vision board anyway you want. The only thing that matters is that it represent your vision. It can be a physical board with pictures from magazines or pictures you print out yourself. Or a digital board you make in photoshop, Canva, or my favorite, Pinterest.
Your vision board can represent a lot of different goals. You can make a vision board for a part of your life, a specific goal or for your whole life. It’s completely up to you!
27. Book something fun
Even if you won’t do anything special today you can plan something that makes you excited for the future.
You can book a trip, a concert, a girl night, taco gathering or a date with your special someone. It doesn’t have to cost anything. You can visit a local park or bike to the ocean. Just to have something to look forward to usually gets me in a much better mood.
28. Clean out your closet
Sometimes it’s difficult to see the trees because of the forrest. So by cleaning out your closet you can actually find more clothes to wear. Maybe you’ll find some lost pearl that had been forgotten.
I also feel that by cleaning out in general I clean out my mind at the same time. Less visible clutter equals less mental clutter.
And by throwing out (or give away) the clothes that make you uncomfortable and self-conscious there’ll only be clothes that make you feel pretty and confident. And to be your best you must feel your best.
29. Singalong as load as you can to your favorite songs
My songs of choice is songs from disney movies, especially the old ones. The Lion king, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The little Mermaid and Pocahontas – they are simply the best.
I just crank the volume (when I’m home alone) and just sing my heart out (there is quite often some dramatic dancing involved as well). This always ends up with me laughing at myself because of how ridiculous I most look.
